What if you feel that the ETR is not appropriate or doesn't capture the issues facing your child?

You may be eligible for an Independent Educational Evaluation, or IEE. An IEE is an evaluation of the educational needs of a child with a disability by an outside evaluator and paid for by the district. You may request one IEE for every ETR your child receives. When asking for an IEE, be sure to ask for the district’s policies and procedures, including criteria for choosing an outside evaluator. Once the IEE is completed, the team must have a meeting to consider the IEE.

It is important to understand that although the team must consider the IEE, it is not required to accept the IEE in place of the ETR.
